First 10k event recap

HI!!!

Today I did my first 10k event.

It was an amazing experience running with 4,200 women. I was so nervous and excited to achieve this goal that I couldn’t sleep well but when I woke up my energy was 100%.  I’m so glad that with a short time to train I put myself the goal of doing it and I accomplished it with a best personal record [PR =personal record of -5min and 9 seconds].

Planning my next training

Hi!

I still running not the distance I want but at least is something. Right!

I want to start planning my next training schedule to achieve the distance I want to before my new goal distance event. Which is a 10k. Yes I’m so excited to this new chapter in my running journey, is something I have been think about, since my health is good and the doctor gave me the green light. This is what I’m looking forward to accomplish.

My longest run was 5.00mi years ago. It was on November 2013. I remember it was the running/walking type of run. I also remember it wasn’t plan at all. It was fantastic.

So this week my training start. I have 17 weeks to training. So I have a chart with the distance/workout I want to complete each day per week. I add some workout at home and the rest days. Everything can be modified and the chart is good to be accountable and obtain motivation.

Let’s see how it goes…!!

A month without running (life update/ race recap)

Hi!

Around here it may be more than a month without posting.

There’s a reason… (read down below)

3rd 5k of the year RECAP:

My third 5k running event was this past month. November 4.

I was very relax the night before, I usually have anxiety or couldn’t sleep. For this event I wasn’t nervous at all which is amazing. I was so confident and happy and looking forward to participate. I arrange everything at night so in the morning I can get ready fast and everything is on hand. I wakeup early took my time… relax. Since I start driving there I notice that start raining I was like this is going to be a rainy run which is not bad but it was a little cold so it will be interesting. I get there and the rain doesn’t stop so this is it. The welcoming to the runner was very different during this run and very particular.

This event was a run to Honor the Veterans. They talk about different topics, they pray, and they also mention everyone serving and currently deploy. It was a little to emotional for that early but I felt grateful that they do that, that they take time and honor those that risk they life for our freedom. It was amazing. I went with amore (husband) and my baby. My husband ran faster than me so he took the baby on the stroller. Let me tell you the baby had a blast during the run. I was nice having my family there waiting on the finish line.

But before getting there let’s talk about DURING the run. I was so positive and smily all the time. (this was a goal of mine. Be more cheerful and It went well and it felt amazing.) This run was very different from the other two 5k this year. Rain and HILLS yep you read that right. Hills which I haven’t run in one since I move here a year ago. At first I was like very worried about the hills but in the process I felt like “I can do this” and I did it. i finish the 5k non-stopping again YESSS!!! I did a good time also perhaps th rain and the hills. Is not a pr or pb but it was AMAZING and I enjoy it. That the key, enjoy what you do, and do it with your heart.

Life Update:

Two days after the 5k event I was at home. It was early when I start feeling a sharp and intense pain in the flank side on the right. It felt awful and it didn’t go away. So I call to make a appoitment with my primary doctor. It didn’t work he was busy so they recommend the urgent care. So I went there and they sent my to the hospital because it maybe something more serious and it was. I went to the the hospital, they took differents test, also a ct scan to know what the hell I have. They came with the results long hours later telling me that I have a kidney infection and a kidney stone. (Nothing new for me, but the pain is very serious.) They send me home… few days later I visit them again because the pain medication wasn’t helping at all. It was horrible and felt very misarable. They gave me something stronger that work but this took two weeks to me start recovering from the infection and the stone that was on the way. ( Thanks God this kidney stone wasn’t stuck , which I had in the past  and is not fun. I wrote about it in the past.)

To many doctor appointments later.

Feeling grateful I finally feel better and myself again.

The doctor gave me green light to start running so  I start December with a run 1.00mi.

It felt nice not running for a while but I miss it. Now I’m not training for any event in the near future. I will run just for fun.

My October Miles 2017

Hi!

October was a slow training month. After been active 5 months training for the 5k event I did. I have a post with the recap if you want to know a little bit more about my second 5k this year (Click Here). I lower the miles and days to run during this month, but in general was a good month in the training area.

I ran a total of 12.14 miles in 9 runs.

I was supposed to train more for a 5k I want to participate during the month of November but I change my mind and I take it easy. My goal for October 5k was running without stopping thing that I achieve but It wasn’t the same goal for the November event so I just want to enjoy it and maybe accomplish a better time. Let’s see what happen!

About my October Goals: (Click Here to see the goals post of October 2017)

I kept training and I going to keep running. It doesn’t matter if I had an event or not. I had drunk more water but I can’t avoid those coca cola days.  I try to workout my core more but it was a little bit during this month. Yes I stretch more during this month It help me a lot with my lower back pain and in general with the runs. The part of stress less and incorporate meditation it work but I may need to improve it.

My first 5k event of 2017

Hi!

I recently participated in a 5k run/walk event. But I want to start from where or how a found about it and decided to join the event.

The 5k event was this past weekend; but the weekend before I was in a community event there was this booth about running for people in need of food. So I decided to stop by and ask. I knew  beforehand about the event. I just wanted to talk and know more about it in person. The person on command talk briefly about the event and gave me a registration paper and then she say: ” For participating in the community event this time if you registered today you can use this code for no fee”. Wait! What? I was so excited I came home and I registered. Without training at all. Without running that distance in almost 3 yrs. Just like that I registered for the 5k event. I was very excited, motivated and a little bit nervous to run and participate in an event.

I just started running on april again so for me this is huge distance because my average distance is around 0.50mi to 1.00mi. So Can you imagine how nervous I was? In a scale 1/100 I was 120 haha.

**I want to take a moment before continuing with the recap and say Thank You to all the people how encourage me and send me positive vibes on the post where I announce that I was participating in the 5k event. It felt so nice having the support of all of you the virtual family. Thanks again!

Recap:

Let’s start…

I arrived  at 7:50am a little late but it was okay. I went by myself and straight to the start/finish line. They gave the protocol before starting and the more they talk the more my anxiety high up. I was nervous but I wasn’t demonstrating it.

At 8:02am they 5k start I was very confident with the route I begin to run everything was fine trying to skip the walking pals then it hit me hard just before the 1.00 mile. I was like omg! my pace was fast and my legs hurt but I need to keep moving. Then I stop running and start walking but I wanted to run so I started running and then again I need to stop but this time was my breathing. So I walked a little more, then I became desperate when it hit the 2.68mi mark. I was like  “come on, you can run” but when I start running I don’t know what happen that I couldn’t keep up so I start doing interval 2 minutes running 2 minutes walk. Trying to reach the finish line. When I get there I see the timer It was very hard to realize the time you did. It wasn’t what you expect. But Come on I didn’t train for this event. It was amazing seeing all that people running for a good cause, and helping others. Overall I think I’m doing it again next year!! Oh YEAH! But this time I’m training for it!

5k run/walk Results:

00:50:40 min

16:19 pace

Overall 323rd of  523

Female: 181st of 329

F. 30-39: 30th of 53

About the results:

The time it wasn’t what I expect but I accept it because I know I did my best.

The pace for run/walk I think it was great.

Overall/female/and female age group it was amazing.

This 5k event was my slowest one ever but not my last.

So I will keep training for my next!

P.S. The photos from the event haven’t arrive so when I get it I will share it!

Santa’s 5k (recap)

Hi!

I know I was missing in action. For health, moving, new place ‘state’ issues I didn’t wrote or updated anything in this blog.

Let’s start with this Santa’s 5k recap.

This event was on Saturday, December 14, 2013.

Place: Veterans Park | Milwaukee, WI

Weather: 19 degrees F. Snowing a lot.

Fun fact: [ This place is near Lake Michigan ]

The area was cover with snow, so that difficult the run. It was hard, maybe we take to many minutes to made it to the finish line but we did it!

I went with my husband and my two running partners and friends.

Here a photo from that day.

santas5k2013

Distance: 3.10 mi

Time: 50:15 min

Pace: 16′ 10″/mi avg pace

Glo Run Fun 5k event Sept 21, 2013.

Hi!

Here we go…

This 5k event was a little bit different than the others I participated. In this event they don’t used timer, but thanks God I bring with me, my arm band and my cellphone.

I enjoyed all the route they use in this race or event.

Let’s begin with the fun part since the timer issue is nothing to bother about.

I liked the music and the good vibe in the event. I loved the lights, everyone in customes or with neon gear to participate. Everyone look so happy, that was great to see it around.

The route was fun with music, the lights, the neon effects, the lights in the tunel everything was nice, but even better was my timing at the finish line.
I beat my pr 35:56min.

Oh yeah!!! I’m so happy about that thanks to my amore (husband) that helped me to reach that awesome time. He support me to be the better me every single day. Thanks to that amore mio!

I enjoyed the after party. They play some good music, everyone was dancing, talking and singing. Some of them participated in the best customes contest; that was so cool!

Everything was nice that night… Oops I didn’t mention that this event was at night!

Hope you get it when I mention the lights and neon effects. Hehe

Ciao,

Thanks,

C.P.

My Fourth 5k Event – Community 5k Run

Hi!

My fourth 5k event was on September 6, 2013. This event was at night with the people around my community. Was a great idea because I’m new in the neigborhood. I got to know more people that love the same passion that is RUN. This race was nice, I saw the families giving support around the route; was a great motivation. I went by myself, so that was nice to receive the animate from the people around; great impression. This was a fun run, I made it to the finish line in 38:36 min. To be by myself with no friend or family member around me was great. I usually run with my amore or friends when is relative with races.
The finish was nice. The event got better at the end; Free snacks, Free beer, Free gifts, music and a nice part was the bonfire.

This once again was a great experience, I loved it… I’m a little sad because it was the first time that the community make this event and for the next year I won’t be here to participate… But the life goes on, and you need to move on, to progress. The good thing is that I going to be in a new place to explore it RUNNING! Love it…

Thanks,

C.P.
